My journey with the Elmwood turf grass program has been a fulfilling experience; giving me the opportunity to travel to different countries around the world and work in varies climates putting my skills and knowledge to the test.
Since the beginning of the program when I was a student I fell in love with this industry and creating a new path in my life and setting up a great life for myself.
Winning student of the year I got a chance to be part of the maintenance crew for the Alfred Dunhill in Scotland and that’s where it all started for me and fell more in love with the industry.
I started as an assistant greenkeeper at Silverlakes Golf Estate in Pretoria South Africa and working with the best in the business and given some challenges to test my character. I worked as an assistant for 2 years and got the opportunity to go to the Middle-East in Kuwait doing a short contract for my previous business for football fields, this was a difficult change as temperatures reach 63 degrees in Kuwait in summer which puts the grass and one’s self to the test as working with many varieties of turf grass during summer and winter.
I was offered a job in Kuwait from Euro Diwan and now work in this region all year round. I was brought in here to create a maintenance company for my client and change the revolution of the industry in the country. I now have 15 football fields and do the national stadium landscaping, busy with another 6 tenders for fields so hopefully by end of 2017 we have 21 fields, we started with 4 fields.
The Elmwood program taught me so much from management, business, turf knowledge to even life skills as its now part of my life on or off work.
